Pliny Fisk: A Life Sent Beyond Familiar Shores
On November 5, 1818, Pliny Fisk was ordained for missionary service at Tabernacle Church in Salem, Massachusetts. His developing Christian convictions had led him to a desire to share the gospel with people beyond his own country.
Fisk later served in the eastern Mediterranean, studying languages, distributing Christian literature, and engaging people across religious and cultural boundaries. Though he died young in 1825, his story illustrates how a personal response to God's grace can become a life of service.
The gospel connection: The message of Christ does not end with our own forgiveness. It invites us to carry hope, truth, and love to others.

John and Mary Paton: Courage to Carry the Gospel
On November 5, 1858, John and Mary Paton returned by boat to Tanna, an island in the New Hebrides, now part of Vanuatu. They had left Scotland to serve among people whose language and customs were unfamiliar to them.
Their mission involved uncertainty, danger, and immense personal sacrifice. Yet they believed that sharing the good news of Jesus Christ was worth the journey. Their example calls us to a faith that is expressed in action, even when obedience is costly.
The gospel connection: Christian witness is not reserved for those who travel across oceans. Every follower of Christ can love a neighbor, extend mercy, and share the hope of salvation.
Historical event: November 5, 1858.

Beautiful Feet, Good News
“How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
Romans 10:15 (KJV)
Perhaps God is calling you not to a distant land, but to a conversation with someone nearby. Who needs to hear that forgiveness and new life are found in Jesus Christ? Pray for an opportunity today to speak with kindness, serve with courage, and point someone toward the Savior.
In Christ's service,
Rick Carder
